How to calculate age
- Years: subtract the birth year from the current year. If this year’s birthday has not happened yet, subtract 1.
- Months: count the full months since the last birthday.
- Days: count the days since that last full month. If the day of the month is lower than the birth day, borrow the number of days in the previous month.
Example: born June 15, 1990, on October 14, 2026. The 2026 birthday has passed, so 2026 − 1990 = 36 years. From June 15 to September 15 is 3 full months, and from September 15 to October 14 is 29 days. Age: 36 years, 3 months and 29 days.
Born on February 29?
If you were born on a leap day, your birthday only appears on the calendar every four years. In other years, people usually celebrate on February 28 or March 1. This calculator shows February 28 in non-leap years. For legal purposes (driver’s licence, age of majority), the rule can depend on the province and the document, so check with the relevant authority.

Why “how old am I in days” varies
Total days depend on how many leap years fall between the two dates. The calculator counts actual calendar days, including every February 29, so it is exact. Hours and minutes are shown as approximations because they assume midnight on both dates and ignore your time of birth and daylight saving changes.
